Not just another match-3

Made for Comfy Jam Spring 2026.

The reason I wanted to make this game was to learn from the game jam experience and interact with other jammers. I also wanted to try making something different that you don’t see all the time.

MatchCrow: Revenant is a timer-driven match-3 combat roguelite with light RPG progression. Before each swap, you choose attack, defend, or heal, and the clear converts into damage, shield, or recovery under a shrinking clock. Between battles, you select one of several upgrades, pick more upgrades at checkpoints, and spend XP on permanent upgrades across runs. To keep things competitive, there’s also a global high score table backed by Firestore, so you can see how far others have pushed and what level they’ve reached.

This isn’t trying to be a perfect game, and I’m not pretending it is. It could use more polish, better art assets, and stronger detail work. The goal was to push beyond a typical match-3 and build something with more depth without losing the clarity of the core loop. During development, I explored a lot of systems, playtested extensively, and kept what felt most interesting without making things too complicated for the time I had.

I also use AI tools deliberately, not as a shortcut, but where they actually make sense: improving pipelines, exploring systems, prototyping quickly, and speeding up iteration where it matters most.

Wishing everyone all the best,
